Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The present paper aims to analyse the emergence of the phenomenon of monoresidence in the adult population of the municipality of Ponta Delgada, in the Azores. It also has the purpose of detecting the meaning of residential space in the justification of personal and social life of these individuals who live alone. The demographics over the past decades in this council, similar to those seen in the Region, tend to register a trend of continuous and progressive increase in the number of people living alone (one person household), going from 10% in 1991 to 18% in 2011 in a total of the classic families, which raises some interesting questions about its emergence. The phenomenon of single-residence has been present in the current public debate worldwide and has been studied for various sciences, particularly in the social sciences. Therefore, the present study sets up an empirical, non-experimental, crosssectional and descriptive research, which aims to detect sociologically if the monoresidences characterizes a way of consolidation to the personal identity of the subject and if this experience establishes a style life, not necessarily synonymous of social isolation. From the methodological point of view, the study will develop from a theoretical, non-probabilistic sample, comprising 12 single individuals of both sexes, of the municipality of Ponta Delgada, aged between 30 and 40 years approximately and living alone, at least a year. As a tool for gathering information, it was decided by the application of in-depth interviews, subsequently subjected to a content analysis.
