Abstract(s)
A génese e as condições da formação de coleções privadas e o modo como foram /são documentadas e disponibilizadas ao público, no segundo e terceiro quartel de Novecentos, nos Açores, é o assunto desta dissertação. O estudo do caso de Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima, colecionador e diretor do Museu de Angra do Heroísmo durante mais de três décadas permitiu acompanhar os vários “andamentos” de um processo colecionístico: desde o contexto e o perfil do colecionador, às condições e características da coleção que constituiu; das práticas de incorporação de coleções privadas em organismos públicos às vicissitudes da gestão integrada de bens. Na óptica do estudo do colecionismo privado assinala-se a modalidade das ligações à construção de um discurso identitário e à intenção de construção de uma memória regional dissonante do regionalismo etnográfico da primeira metade do século XX, enquanto no âmbito da gestão dos acervos museológicos se propõe o tratamento de coleções complexas com valências tridimensionais, arquivísticas e bibliográficas à luz de um sistema de documentação e informação integrado e global assumindo o museu como centro produtor e propiciador da construção de conhecimento.
ABSTRACT: The subject of this dissertation is the genesis and conditions of private collections constitution and how they were / are documented and exhibited to the public in the second half of the 19th century in the Azores. The research on Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima, collector and director of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum for more than three decades allowed to follow the different stages of a collecting process: from the collectors context and profile, to the conditions and the nature of his collection; from the practices of private collections integration in public institutions to the difficulties of general management of patrimonial assets. Through private collecting study, a regional identity and memory are shown as a dissonant regional ethnographic idea of the early twentieth century. As for museum management, a tridimensional treatment of complex collections is proposed, according to an integrated system of documentation and information, where the museum should have the role of the main producer, the knowledge build provider.
