Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Human societies are developing rapidly, with technology invading all dimensions of life in an increasingly dehumanized way and disconnected from nature, which makes vulnerable groups even more vulnerable. In this sense, it is important for professionals working in the education of children and young people, especially those in the social field, to acquire technical-practical skills for a more accessible and functional intervention, in order to provide educational opportunities that prioritize equity. There are uncertainties regarding the professional's ability to intervene when faced with the diverse realities of these children and young people, often without family support or victims of multiple situations that negatively influence their way of being and living. It is important for children to feel good about themselves in order to relate to others. This is why we believe that an educational intervention based on meditation, yoga, and contact with nature can be a useful and innovative tool, as these are simple and effective practices that promote health and well- being as a whole. Through an action-research study conducted in three of the most deprived areas of the municipality of Ribeira Grande, we aimed to understand the impact of an educational intervention for promoting innovative practices aimed at the conception of well-being and quality of life in the multidimensional development and learning of children and young people who are part of non-formal socio-educational intervention spaces. The study involved individual interviews with professionals and focus groups with children and young people, with the collaboration of 12 professionals and 41 children/youth. In summary, the results obtained showed that yoga, meditation, and contact with nature help develop self-control, empathy, concentration, and emotional well-being. These practices contribute to creating a more humanized and inclusive educational environment. The challenge, however, lies in integrating these practices sustainably, requiring training, infrastructure, and structural support from the institution so that the full potential of these activities can be realized.
