Abstract(s)
A eco-eficiência é, talvez, a melhor ferramenta para qualquer organização responder aos desafios do desenvolvimento sustentável e às ameaças da crise ambiental que se vive e que tem tendência a agravar-se. Avaliar e controlar os indicadores de desempenho de uma organização nem sempre é tarefa fácil. Os elementos de comparação disponíveis estão muito dispersos, é necessário avaliar da sua aplicabilidade e é necessário dispor de recursos para fazer as análises necessárias. A indústria de lacticínios dos Açores constitui-se como um sector considerado da maior relevância para a economia regional dos Açores. Descobrir e fornecer pistas sobre a eco-eficiência e sustentabilidade deste sector, constituem as principais preocupações deste trabalho, virado para a realidade prática das instalações fabris que aderiram ao estudo. Foi recolhida informação que permitisse estabelecer um padrão para comparação, primeiro de todo o sector nos Açores e depois daquelas instalações em particular. Avaliados os dados recolhidos junto das empresas e efectuada a comparação com as referências, apresentam-se conclusões sobre o estado dos indicadores de desempenho de eco-eficiência de duas instalações industriais, confirmando-se que a indústria de lacticínios é um sector grande consumidor de água e energia e que apresenta alguns problemas em termos de poluição (águas residuais e emissões gasosas).
ABSTRACT: Eco-efficiency is perhaps the best tool for any organization to meet the challenges of sustainable development and the threat of environmental crisis we are experiencing and that tends to worsen. Assess and monitor performance indicators of an organization is not always easy. Points of comparison are available widely dispersed, it is necessary to evaluate its applicability and it is necessary to have resources to do the necessary tests. The dairy industry is the Azores as a sector considered of great importance to the regional economy of the Azores. Discover and provide clues about the eco-efficiency and sustainability of this sector are the main concerns of this work, facing the practical reality of the manufacturing facilities that have joined the study. Information was collected to allow setting a standard for comparison, the first of the whole sector in the Azores and then those premises in particular. Evaluated the data collected from companies and made the comparison with the references, we present conclusions on the status of performance indicators of eco-efficiency of two industrial plants, confirming that the dairy sector is a major consumer of water and energy and that presents some problems in terms of pollution (wastewater and air emissions).
