A população residente nos destinos representa hoje em dia uma mais valia para o planeamento e desenvolvimento turístico, devendo a sua perceção ser avaliada cuidadosamente. Neste sentido, o presente estudo visa analisar a perceção da população Açoriana relativamente à qualidade oferecida, bem como imagem transmitida pela região. Para o efeito, foi desenvolvido um inquérito online, dirigido apenas aos residentes dos Açores, no qual foram obtidas de 291 respostas. Para o tratamento dos dados foi “aplicado” o modelo estatístico probit ordenado, procurando descobrir os fatores determinantes na apreciação dos residentes quanto à qualidade dos atributos em estudo. Os resultados das regressões, para cada atributo, revelam que diferentes fatores são responsáveis na determinação da opinião dos residentes quanto à qualidade dos atributos. Foi possível apurar que, de um modo geral, a população residente se encontra satisfeita com os atributos oferecidos pela região, bem como com a qualidade e imagem transmitida. Porém, alguns atributos dos Açores, como serviços de apoio e condições de acesso na região, ainda recebem uma apreciação negativa por parte da população.
ABSTRACT: The population residing in the destinations nowadays represents an added value for tourism planning and development, and its perception must be carefully evaluated. In this sense, the present study aims to analyse the perception of the Azorean population regarding the quality offered, as well as image transmitted by the region. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted, aimed only at residents of the Azores, leading to 291 obtained responses. The data was analysed by applying the ordered probit statistical model, aiming to discover the factors that determine the residents' appreciation of the quality of the attributes under study. The results of the regressions, for each attribute, reveal that different factors are responsible in determining the opinion of the residents regarding the quality of the attributes. It was discovered that, in general, residents are satisfied with the attributes offered by the region, as well as the quality and image transmitted. However, some attributes of the Azores, such as support services and access conditions in the region, still received a negative opinion from the population.
