Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The central theme of this dissertation is gender wage discrimination in Agricultural Cooperatives of São Miguel. Studying the issue of wage discrimination is justified by the prevalence of inequalities in the remuneration of individuals with the same qualifications and work experience, where the only difference between them is gender. As the agricultural sector, traditionally, dominated by the male gender, it was intended to evaluate the employee’s perception about the existence of wage discrimination within the Agricultural Cooperatives of São Miguel. Thus, a market research was carried out, applying a survey to a representative sample. The results indicate that the majority of respondents say they do not feel pay discrimination based on their gender and claim to have the same salary opportunities as the opposite gender. It was also possible to verify that, apparently, being a woman and/or being younger does not affect the salary and that there are strong indications that women are not valued, monetarily, for having higher academic levels, leaving the clue to possible work in the future.
