Abstract(s)
Esta dissertação de mestrado tem por objectivo identificar e explorar os elementos arquitectónicos que remontam à época da "economia da laranja" no século XIX. Esta investigação centrou-se nos mirantes, torreões e os portais das antigas quintas de laranja, tendo como espaço de estudo a freguesia da Fajã de Baixo. Procurámos fazer uma análise histórica do período de maior produção e comércio da laranja em São Miguel e um enquadramento da freguesia da Fajã de Baixo no contexto da época a nível demográfico, socioeconómico e do património edificado. Quanto aos elementos identitários provenientes do tempo da "economia da laranja", focamo-nos sobre o seu estudo tipológico e construtivo. Em suma, a Fajã de Baixo é uma pequena freguesia que reflecte uma grande riqueza patrimonial do período áureo da cultura da laranja, um pouco "esquecida" que urge ser valorizada como factor da nossa identidade regional.
ABSTRACT: This master dissertation aims to identify and to explore the architectural elements that retrace to the time of the "economy of the orange" in the nineteenth century. This research focus in viewpoints, towers and vestibules of the orange farms, taking as study space the parish of Fajã de Baixo. We tried to do a historical analysis for the period of highest production and commerce of orange in S. Miguel, and studying the parish of Fajã de Baixo in the context of demographic, socioeconomic and built heritage. As for the identity elements from the time of the "economy of the orange" we have focus on his typological and constructive study. In summary, Fajã de Baixo is a small parish that reflects a great patrimonial wealth of the golden period of the culture of orange, a little "forgotten" that urges to be valued as a factor of our regional identity.
