Abstract(s)
A violência é considerada por muitos autores como um grave problema de saúde pública em todo o mundo. É um fenómeno que tem origens multifatoriais, manifestações multifacetadas, pelo que requer uma leitura pluridimensional. A investigação acerca das conceções dos adolescentes sobre a violência é ainda um tanto ou quanto incipiente em Portugal. A nossa dissertação serve o objetivo de aprofundar conhecimentos sobre a temática, com o propósito de melhorar o entendimento acerca das conceções construídas por adolescentes em contexto escolar acerca da violência em geral. Questionámos que tipos de violência eles identificam, que causas explicativas subentendem, que consequências preveem para o fenómeno, que concetualização estabelecem para uma possível prevenção e que visibilidades consideram ter o problema. No final, avaliamos as crenças que constroem em relação à violência, no que concerne à sua funcionalidade e adaptabilidade. A nossa investigação inscreve-se e apoia-se numa metodologia qualitativa, utilizando como método de recolha de dados, o questionário e entrevista semiestruturada e como análise de dados, a análise de conteúdo. Na análise geral realizada, podemos inferir que a nossa população de adolescentes possui crenças congruentes e funcionais acerca da violência, assim como revelam uma construção bem sucedida e construtiva acerca das possibilidades inerentes à violência, tecendo estratégias para a sua resolução.
ABSTRACT: Violence is considered by many authors as a serious public health problem worldwide. The problem has multifactorial origins, multifaceted manifestations and therefore requires a pluridimesional reading. The investigation concerning adolescent’s conceptions about violence is still somewhat inchoate in Portugal. Our thesis serves to profound knowledge on the subject, with the aim of improving the understanding of conceptions built by teenagers in schools about violence in general. We question what kind of violence they identify, what they understand as underlying causes, what’s the consequences from the phenomenon, which prevention is possible to establish as well as what visibility the problem has. At the end we describe their beliefs about violence and explain whether they are functional or dysfunctional. Our study follows a qualitative approach using a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview to collect data and content analysis to analyze it. Findings show that, in general, the teens in this study evidence functional and congruent beliefs about violence and reveal a successful construction of the possibilities inherent in violence, weaving strategies for their resolution.
