Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Axel Honneth’s work and his well-known theory of recognition have been asserting themselves over the last few years. By extending his theory to international relations, Honneth opposes the dominant utilitarian conception that national governments guide their actions essentially towards ends and objectives and shows that the state’s actors guide their actions towards a moral substrate, seeking the respect and recognition of the community that they represent. Therefore, in the following article, the reasons in favour of a larger consideration of the dimension of recognition in the explanation of international relations will be highlighted, and the normative implications that come from such paradigm change for the comprehension and treatment of International Relations will be explored.
