| dc.description.abstract | Este trabalho debruça-se sobre o mosteiro de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, o último mosteiro feminino construído em Ponta Delgada e o único da Ordem da Imaculada Conceição. Após a extinção do mosteiro, os edifícios continuaram a ser utilizados, sofrendo várias intervenções para albergar o Governo Civil do Distrito de Ponta Delgada e os diversos serviços públicos que aí se instalaram. A cerca e alguns edifícios de origem conventual foram sacrificados para dar resposta às novas necessidades da cidade, com a abertura da Rua Formosa no final do século XIX, criando uma frente sul, que deu origem ao Palácio da Conceição. As transformações ocorridas e a importância dos usos instalados fizeram esquecer a memória das suas funções conventuais. Essa memória só foi recuperada com as intervenções do século XXI. Na sequência dessas intervenções, foi realizado este estudo que permitiu, através de análise histórica, concluir sobre a utilização continuada do edifício, o que garantiu que boa parte da estrutura primitiva conventual fosse preservada, apesar das transformações que o edifício sofreu. A mesma análise permitiu perceber como a cerca conventual foi decisiva na dinâmica urbanística de crescimento da cidade no final do século XIX. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: This work is about the monastery of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the last friars monastery built in Ponta Delgada, and the only one from the monastic Order of the Immaculate Conception. After the monastery extinction, the buildings continued to be used. Several interventions were needed to house the Civil Government of Ponta Delgada District, and other public services that were installed. The fence and some conventual buildings were sacrificed to meet the city's demands. The road Rua Formosa was opened in the end of the 19th century, creating a new building front that became Palácio da Conceição. The transformations and the importance of the installed services made the memory of its conventual functions forgotten. This memory was only recovered with the interventions in the 21st century. Following these recent interventions, this study allowed, through historical analysis, to conclude there was a continued use of the building, that assured the preservation of a good part of the primitive conventual structure, despite the transformations of the building. The same analysis allowed us to understand how the monastery fence played a key part in the urban growth dynamics at the end of the 19th century. | eng |
