Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Nature in the Azores has been amply studied within the natural sciences, but much Jess so within the scope of social sciences and culture studies. To counteract this situation, this text presents an ecocritical and feminist analysis of the attitudes toward nature that have emerged within the context of Azorean society and culture, through the comparative study GenARE: Generations of Azoreans and Renewable Energy and in Mau Tempo no Canal (literally "bad weather in the [Pico-Faial] Channel," translated as Stormy Isles: An Azorean Tale in 1998), the emblematic novel of Azorean literature that, as the very title suggests, points to the vitality of nature in the islands.
