Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The main goal of this Stage Report is to analyze and reflect about the educational action developed in the Pedagogical Internship context, on Pre-School Education and 1.º Cycle Elementary School curricular units, integrated in the Master´s Degree in Pre-School Education and 1.º Cycle Elementary School, at the University of the Azores. In addition to our reflection on the general activities conducted in our internships, we opted to investigate further and enhance our studies on a subject matter in particular, taken into account what we consider to be one of the fundamentals for the children development, imagination and creativity. This way, we title our work “Scratch, scribble and risk it: The Plastic Expression in children Playtime, in Pre-School Education and 1.º Cycle Elementary School”. With that, we will embark on a detailed journey thru all activities accomplished during our Pedagogical Internships and, at the same time focus on the impact of the Playtime in the current days, as well as how children integrate Plastic Expression on their routines and plays/games. For this, we have decided to explore two different contexts of education, urban and rural, allowing us to compare them and understand their potential, and the challenges within. Were questioned 57 children and 41 parents on both contexts, with the intent to comprehend their daily routines, the occupation of their free time, and the priority of the free time activities in their life. Seeking the teachers class input on the matter of subject, were interviewed as well, 5 Pre-School Educators and 5 1.º Cycle Elementary School teachers, all in different stages on their professional path, with public school and private school experiences. Regarding our educational action, we have concluded that it was decisive for the better understanding and helped outline the context of our future professional activity. To the in-depth subject that we have decided to embrace, we concluded that Plastic Expression when connected and integrated on children plays/games, enhances their development in different domains, such as communication, observation capabilities, selfconfidence and critical thinking, feelings and emotional management and at last will help on strengthen their imagination and creativity.
