| dc.description.abstract | Bartolomeu do Quental (1626-1698) foi pregador da capela real, capelão e confessor do paço, e tornou-se sobretudo conhecido pela Congregação do Oratório que fundou em Portugal, em 1668. Analisaremos o conjunto dos seus sermões com o propósito de pôr em evidência uma eloquência oratória, pródiga em imagens, comparações e exemplos, e acompanhar os seus intentos altamente moralizadores e doutrinadores, marcados pela enunciação de uma ética política, social e pessoal. Atenderemos, desta forma, por um lado, aos temas de incidência política que predominam nos sermões pronunciados na Capela Real, nomeadamente a equidade na administração da justiça, a atenção aos mais desprotegidos, o zelo e a isenção do rei na administração do reino e a superioridade da lei de Deus que a todos sujeita. Por outro lado, tomaremos em consideração os sermões que foram proferidos fora da Capela Real, em que os temas políticos cedem o lugar à meditação sobre a fragilidade da natureza humana, o aperfeiçoamento da vida interior e a reforma da vida moral. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: Bartolomeu do Quental (1626-1698) was a preacher in the Royal Chapel, in Linbon, and became mainly known for the Congregation of the Oratory that he founded in Portugal, in 1668. We will analyze all of his sermons with the purpose of highlighting oratory eloquence, lavish in images, comparisons and examples, and following his highly moralizing and indoctrinating intentions, marked by enunciation of political, social and personal ethics. In this way, on the one hand, we will attend to the themes of political influence that predominate in the sermons given in the Royal Chapel, namely equity in the administration of justice, attention to the most vulnerable, the zeal and exemptions of the king in the administration of the kingdom and the superiority of God’s law that subjects everyone. On the other hand, we will take into account the sermons that were given outside the Royal Chapel, in which political themes give way to meditation on the fragility of human nature, the improvement of inner life and the reform of moral life. | |
