ABSTRACT: This traineeship report follows on from the reflexive analysis of the educational action developed during our Pedagogical Traineeship, in the framework of the Master's degree program in Pre-school Education and Primary School Teaching offered by the University of the Azores. The reason for the title – Artistic Expressions in Pre-School Education and First Cycle of Basic Education as an Open Window on Creativity - arises from the need to understand how creativity (currently a highly valued intellectual skill) is exploited in the schooling context, namely by teaching Artistic Expressions. Therefore, we have been trying to understand how Artistic Expressions contribute to children's development, and how to explore possible links between these subjects and creativity. In line with this purpose, we have also investigated how creativity is enhanced at school, especially through the practice of Artistic Expressions, in the real school context where our traineeship took place. Besides the analysis of our educational intervention, and with the aim of understanding how these subjects are regarded by school teachers, four of them, (belonging to both educational levels mentioned above) were interviewed. Using this technique, we ascertained if the exercise of creativity was encouraged in their daily practice, and by which means and resources. We asked if they resorted to Artistic Expression for this specific purpose, and we collected their opinion on the impact of such exercise on children's development process. This reflexive analysis of our own practices allowed us to conclude that Artistic Expressions are excellent for promoting creativity, contributing to a richer and more diverse pedagogical action, fostering children's development in its different areas. We further concluded that, although this kind of practice is considered an advantage by teachers pertaining to both educational levels taken here into account, the significance of artistic activity, especially that which involves Plastic Expression, is particularly highlighted in Preschool Education.
