Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The offer of financial products to investors has evolved valuably over the last decades. In order to explain this evolution, several authors sought to describe its behavior in economy. The first theories, in neoclassical vision, supported a passive behavior of banking. Other theories like Keynesās and Minskyās later appeared, recognizing the active role of the banking activity, in particular to mobilize clientās savings. Starting from an analysis of the net asset value, it was possible to identify the six largest banks with Portuguese headquarters. The study was done in order to understand what is the offer and specifics of the financial products in Portugal for private clients, divided in four groups: deposits, investment funds, securities and insurance banking. It was found that on an overall basis the offer of financial products available in banks is rather diverse and, at the same time, quite uniform. It was also noted that the banks remain, on the one hand having a passive role, to the extent that the investment decision is dependent on the investors, at the same time there are financial innovations to attracting differentiated savings.
