Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: This thesis approaches the online electronic auctions in the scope of the management of relationships between buyers and suppliers in a business-to-business context. It intends to study the changes in the relationship with suppliers, the eventual benefits and costs for the parts in the specific context of the introduction of an online electronic auctions tool. The work is supported in an intensive study and approaches the automobile industry. It adopts the multiple case studies method and involves an automobile factory and some of its non-production materials suppliers. Interviews are used to determine the implications for the constructor and its suppliers and they are conducted with purchasing professionals and managers of the companies involved. One of the conclusions of the work is that the introduction of online electronic auctions and the systematic use of the tool in a context of a relationship with cooperative characteristics, between buyers and suppliers, can contribute to dislocate it, in the possible continuum, in a transactional direction. The trust in the relationship can also be affected and this effect is amplified if the buyer doesn’t allot the contracts according to the results of the auctions.
