Este texto busca compreender alguns aspectos do universo cultural português através do estudo do “Catálogo da livraria de
Marino Miguel Franzini”, manuscrito do final do século XVIII e início do século XIX, no qual o autor – um militar, cientista e político, diretamente envolvido nos acontecimentos políticos e militares
portugueses do período, em particular no Vintismo – classificou e organizou os livros de sua biblioteca segundo critérios humanistas, científicos e “racionais”, típicos do liberalismo que se consolida
neste período.
ABSTRACT: This article tries to understand some aspects of Portuguese cultural universe through the study of a manuscript entitled “Catálogo da livraria de Marino Miguel Franzini”, written at the turn of the 18th to the 19th Centuries, in which the author – a Portuguese military, scientist and politician directly involved in the political and military events of his day, especially the 1820 liberal revolution – classified and organized the books in his library according to humanist, scientific and “rational” criteria, typical of the liberal thought consolidated around this particular time.
