- Adoption of CRM technology in multichannel environment : a review (2000-2013)Publication . Tiago, Flávio Borges; Tiago, Maria TeresaDespite the relevance of customer relationship management (CRM), there is a lack of a comprehensive literature review and a classification scheme for it in the last five years. This work provides an academic database of literature between the periods of 2000–2013, covering 28 journals and proposes a classification scheme to classify the articles in accordance to CRM main paths. Around fifty five hundred articles were identified and reviewed for their direct relevance to CRM in a multichannel environment. Eighty-seven articles were subsequently selected, reviewed and classified. Each of the selected papers was categorized on four CRM dimensions (Identification, Attraction, Retention and Development) and in the different channels involved (personnel sales, call center, email, web, and mobile). The review process was independently verified and promote interesting findings: Findings of this paper indicate that the research area of customer retention received most research attention during the first half of the years studied. On the other half, besides retention, development stage was truly relevant. Our analysis provides a roadmap to guide future research, as well as facilitate knowledge accumulation concerning the CRM in multichannel.
- Banks’ capital, regulation and the financial crisisPublication . Teixeira, João; Silva, Francisco; Fernandes, Ana V.; Alves, Ana Carolina GomesThis paper investigates whether regulatory capital requirements play an important role in determining banks’ equity capital. We estimate equity capital regressions using panel data of a sample of 560 banks for 2004-2010. Our results suggest that regulatory capital requirements are not first order determinants of banks’ capital structure. We document differences on the effect of most factors on banks’ share of equity according to the type of bank and to the region of the bank. Finally, we show that the determinants of this share are sensitive to the recent international financial crisis and to a set of regulatory country factors.
- The daily returns of the Portuguese stock index : a distributional characterizationPublication . Rege, Sameer; Teixeira, João; Menezes, António Gomes deThis paper compares the fitting of the normal, generalized hyperbolic, normal inverse Gaussian and Student t distributions to the daily returns of the Portuguese Stock Index PSI-20 over the period 1992-2013. We find that the distribution of the actual returns of the PSI-20 exhibits much higher kurtosis and extreme values as compared to the normal distribution. Overall, the best fit is provided by the Student t and the generalized hyperbolic distributions. This pattern also applies to the tail behavior, as the density of the Student t distribution exhibits fatter tails then the density of the other distributions, followed by the density of the generalized hyperbolic distribution. Finally, we find that the normal inverse Gaussian and the normal distributions have the lowest fitting quality to the actual daily returns of the Portuguese stock index.
Faria, Sandra Dias; Couto, João Pedro Almeida; Tiago, Maria TeresaIn the past decades, entrepreneurship has become one of the top concepts in the business field. Its relevance has increased in the past five years due to the economic world crises. Despite the relevance of entrepreneurship, there is a lack of empirical evidences regarding the enabling factors of entrepreneurship. This work provides a review of the literature related to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education and sets the grounds for a deeper understanding of the impacts of the last element on university students’ propensity to become entrepreneurs. The data gathered and use in this work, covers four different countries and allow us to test the framework established. Findings of this paper indicate that entrepreneurship education is common ground in most countries and the individual characteristics are no longer truly distinctive between countries. On the other half, besides these conclusions, the results show that entrepreneurship education is a key component of entrepreneurship propensity among university students. Our analysis provides a roadmap to guide future research, leaving answered some questions that will be future paths of research.
- A joint replenishment competitive location problemPublication . Silva, Francisco; Lourenço, Helena Ramalhinho; Nunes, Pedro Portugal de SousaCompetitive Location Models seek the positions which maximize the market captured by an entrant firm from previously positioned competitors. Nevertheless, strategic location decisions may have a significant impact on inventory and shipment costs in the future affecting the firm’s competitive advantages. In this work we describe a model for the joint replenishment competitive location problem which considers both market capture and replenishment costs in order to choose the firm’s locations. We also present an metaherusitic method to solve it based on the Viswanathan’s (1996) algorithm to solve the Replenishment Problem and an Iterative Local Search Procedure to solve the Location Problem.
- A regret model applied to the facility location problem with limited capacity facilitiesPublication . Nunes, Pedro Portugal de Sousa; Silva, Francisco; Lourenço, Helena RamalhinhoThis article addresses issues related to location and allocation problems. Herein, we intend to demonstrate the influence of congestion, through the random number generation, of such systems in final solutions. An algorithm is presented which, in addition to the GRASP, incorporates the Regret with the pminmax method to evaluate the heuristic solution obtained with regard to its robustness for different scenarios. Taking as our point of departure the Facility Location Problem proposed by Balinski [27], an alternative perspective is added associating regret values to particular solutions.
- A regret model applied to the maximum capture location problemPublication . Taking as our point of departure the Maximum Capture Location Problem proposed by Church and Revelle [1, 26], an alternative perspective is added in which the choice behavior of the server does not depend only on the elapsed time from the demand point looking to the center, but includes also the service waiting time.
- A regret model applied to the maximum coverage location problem with queue disciplinePublication . Nunes, Pedro Portugal de Sousa; Silva, Francisco; Lourenço, Helena RamalhinhoThis article discusses issues related to the location and allocation problems where is intended to demonstrate, through the random number generation, the influence of congestion of such systems in the final solutions. It is presented an algorithm that, in addition to the GRASP, incorporates the Regret with the pminmax method to evaluate the heuristic solution obtained in regard to its robustness for different scenarios. To the well know Maximum Coverage Location Problem from Church and Revelle [1] an alternative perspective is added in which the choice behavior of the server does not only depend on the elapsed time from the demand point looking to the center, but also includes the waiting time for service conditioned by a waiting queue.
