Representações sociais em torno da institucionalização da pessoa idosa : um estudo comparativo entre o meio rural e o meio urbano

Abstract

"Representações Sociais em torno da Institucionalização da Pessoa Idosa: Um Estudo Comparativo entre o Meio Rural e o Meio Urbano" é a designação da presente dissertação. Como o próprio tema indica, este trabalho de cariz científico visa conhecer representações sociais acerca do processo de institucionalização em lar, tanto por parte de pessoas idosas institucionalizadas em meio rural, como por parte de pessoas idosas institucionalizadas em meio urbano. Dado que vivemos numa sociedade pautada por diversas mutações a vários níveis, familiar, económico e social, acrescido do crescente envelhecimento da população, por tudo isto, cada vez mais verifica-se a necessidade da institucionalização da pessoa idosa em lares de terceira idade. Neste sentido, o propósito central deste estudo assenta em investigar, analisar, compreender e comparar se as representações sociais da pessoa idosa institucionalizada em meio rural, acerca do fenómeno da institucionalização, diferem das representações sociais da pessoa idosa institucionalizada em meio urbano.

ABSTRACT: "Social representations around the institutionalization of the elderly: A comparative study between the Rural and Urban areas" is the definition of the present thesis. As the name itself suggests, this work of scientifically character intends to learn social representations regarding the institutionalization in nursing home, both by elderly institutionalized in rural areas, as by elderly institutionalized in urban areas. Given that we live in a society guided by several mutations at different levels, familiar, economic and social, plus the growing aging of the population, for all this, increasingly it appears the need of institutionalization of the elderly in nursing homes. In this sense, the main purpose of the present study is based on investigating, analyzing, understanding and comparing if the social representations of the institutionalized elderly in rural areas, regarding the institutionalization, differ from the social representations of the institutionalized elderly in urban areas.
