Abstract(s)
A longa relação Luso-Sínica ganha novos contornos e desafios com a devolução de Macau à República Popular da China em 1999, após a Declaração Sino-Portuguesa sobre a Questão de Macau de 13 de abril de 1987. Com esta investigação pretende-se realçar e compreender os laços históricos entre Portugal e a China, tendo como foco Macau, não só durante a era da soberania portuguesa mas também após a devolução da soberania à China, descrevendo o seu processo histórico em termos sociais, culturais e políticos em ambos os períodos, e por último equacionar os possíveis desafios que poderão surgir no seio desta relação triangular, nomeadamente o declínio da presença cultural portuguesa e a degradação dos princípios democráticos estabelecidos pelo referido acordo. Este tema reveste-se de especial importância para o futuro da política externa portuguesa, principalmente dada a escassez de trabalhos académicos sobre esta temática. Para a realização desta investigação iremos recorrer a uma pesquisa qualitativa e análise documental através de diversas fontes académicas e bibliográficas com o objetivo de expandir o conhecimento, analisando teorias e modificando as existentes.
Esperamos contribuir para o aprofundamento do conhecimento desta temática de forma a concorrer para a resolução dos principais desafios que se colocam hoje na relação entre Portugal e a China.
ABSTRACT: The long Luso-Chinese relationship gained new contours and challenges with the return of Macao to the People’s Republic of China in 1999, following the Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration on the Question of Macau of April 13, 1987. This research aims to highlight and understand the historical ties between Portugal and China, focusing on Macau, not only during the era of Portuguese sovereignty but also after the handover to China, describing it’s historical process in social, cultural and political terms in both periods, and finally the possible challenges that could develop within this triangular relationship, namely the regression of Portuguese culture and the degradation of the democratic principles established by the agreement. This topic is of particular importance for the future of Portuguese foreign policy, mainly given the scarcity of academic work on this topic. To carry out this investigation we will use qualitative research and documentary analysis through various academic and bibliographical sources with the aim of expanding knowledge, creating theories, and modifying existing ones. We hope to contribute to deepening knowledge of this topic in order to help resolve the main challenges facing the relationship between Portugal and China today.
