Abstract(s)
O reconhecimento de que a aprendizagem da língua, particularmente da língua materna, se constitui como pedra basilar do desenvolvimento integral do sujeito coloca sobre a Escola olhares de exigência que reclamam desta o cumprimento do seu papel principal, o de promover aprendizagem. Em Portugal, a Escola tem-se deparado com dificuldades maiores no processo de cumprir este papel. Diversos estudos têm materializado percepções sociais cada vez mais vincadas de que a qualidade do desempenho dos alunos portugueses ao nível dos Ensinos Básico e Secundário encontra-se muito abaixo dos níveis médios europeus. Os resultados preocupam e já se fazem sentir no Ensino Superior. As soluções que se vão encontrando tendem, no entanto, a centrar-se ao nível curricular, descurando uma intervenção atenta ao nível da pessoa do aluno e do docente, das suas concepções, conhecimentos e competências e elos contextos em que interagem.
ABSTRACT: The awareness that the learning of language, particularly the mother tongue, plays a fundamental role in the global development of the individual challenges the Educational System to live up to the expectations and demands of society concerning language learning. In Portugal, schools have been facing difficulties in fulfilling this role. Various studies have corroborated the general perception that the quality of students' performance in our country is below average European levels. The results of these studies are disturbing and extend to higher education. The search for solutions to these problems has mainly occurred on a curricular level. It is crucial, however, that attention be given to teachers and students as individuals, to their ideas, previous competencies and acquired knowledge, as well as to the context in which their learning takes place.
