ABSTRACT: This study is entitled Women Survivors of Conjugal Violence: Perspectives about the beginning of new relationships. It discusses aspects related to the end of abusive conjugal relationships and the beginning of new relationships. To support better the discussion, it tries to know the attitude of women survivors regarding the legitimacy of intimate violence and what are its predominant life values. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, with a qualitative approach. On specific terms, sixteen women that survived Conjugal Violence have been interviewed. The interview process (structured and semi structured) was supported by four instruments of data collecting: socio demographic data sheet, scale of Conjugal Violence beliefs; inventory of life values and a semi-structured interview script. The collected data were analyzed according to an interpretative paradigm. Main results show that exist a generalized attitude by the participants of not legitimating the violence, and that the most salient life values are concerned about the environment, with others, loyalty to family and group, responsibility and spirituality. In terms of perspectives about the beginning of new relationships, it is observed that the women interviewed seem to subordinate their role of woman/wife/partner to the role of motherhood. It is observed as well, some preoccupation on the access of information about the new partner, mostly reporting to the professional situation, consumptions and dependences and violent behaviours, abording the dialogue. The motivation of these women to begin a new relation seems to be the need for affection and to avoid loneliness. Their aspirations about the relationship and their life are generally positive, although they point as their biggest fears/doubts/hesitations the disappointment and the fear of suffering from violence once again. Their support sources are essentially their family and friends. The conjugation of the data seem to suggest that the interviewed women, although have developed an attitude of repudiation by the intimate violence, break the cycle of domestic violence and try to begin new life paths, that are still in adjustment period, swinging between discomfort supervenes of the abusive relationship and the idea of a comforting better future.
