Abstract(s)
Neste presente trabalho, pretendemos explorar as estruturas populacionais e as questões sociais e urbanísticas, tendo como alvo o Concelho da Lagoa, no período Republicano. Procurou-se conhecer a evolução da população a nível nacional e regional para se poder enquadrar a estrutura etária, o movimento natural e o saldo migratório da dimensão lagoense. A nível social debruçamo-nos sobre as questões da higiene e saúde pública, do abastecimento de água, da iluminação pública, das obras privadas cujas licenças eram solicitadas à edilidade local, das instituições sociais que prestavam auxílio aos mais carenciados e da educação, como sinais de progresso local que na época se pretendia evidenciar. Em suma, o Concelho Lagoense reflecte os pensamentos e as acções da política republicana no seu período de instalação, que pretendia dar sinais de modernidade e desenvolvimento, revelando sinais de ambição capazes de vingar num país em mutação.
ABSTRACT: In this present study, we plan to explore the population structures and urban and social issues, targeting the City Council of Lagoa, in the Republican period. It had been sought to know the evolution of the population at national and regional levels in order to frame the age structure, the natural movement and the migratory balance of the lagoense dimension. At the social level, were analyzed the issues of hygiene and public health, water supply, street lighting, private works whose licenses were applied for to the local Council, social institutions that are providing aid to the most needy and education, as signs of local progress which at the time intended to highlight. In short, the Lagoense Municipality reflects the thoughts and actions of a country that wanted to give signs of modernity, development and evolution, of a young Republic that wanted to show symptoms of force, revealing signs of ambition able to thrive in a country that was changing.
