Abstract(s)

A visita régia de 1901 representou um momento único na história dos arquipélagos atlânticos. Pelo seu simbolismo e impacte, volvidos mais de cem anos sobre a sua ocorrência, continua a perpetuar-se na memória colectiva local. A análise dos seus antecedentes, da organização e do contexto em que se efectuou, das causas ou motivações que levaram D. Carlos a vir às ilhas, bem como dos múltiplos significados e interpretações que a visita assumiu e suscitou constitui o principal objectivo deste trabalho que, todavia, não esgotará, de certo, esta questão que tem merecido já a atenção de diferentes historiadores.

ABSTRACT: the king’s visit of 1901 was a unique moment in the History of atlantic archipels. By it’s symbolism and impact, in spite of more than one hundred years past, it still reamains in local collective memory. The analisys of the foregoing, of the proceeding and context, the main causes that moved D. Carlos visiting the islands and also the different meanings and interpretations of the event, is the principal purpose of this work that, however, would not exhaust this matter, wich has been treated by several historians.
