| dc.description.abstract | Este trabalho pretende demonstrar que os Açores, uma região ultraperiférica da União Europeia, são mais do que uma moeda de troca na relação Atlântica. A perspectiva histórica demonstrará como no passado os Açores foram importantes para a relação Euro-Atlântica, e para a afirmação de Portugal. Analisaremos a atualidade deste território, e realçaremos os pontos que atualmente o tornam importante, na vertente securitária, cientifica e espacial. Através de entrevistas de pessoas que no passado e/ou atualmente, estejam e/ou estiveram ligados ao tema, pretendemos analisar como os Açores podem ser importantes para Portugal, e para a União Europeia do ponto de vista geopolítico, importância esta que poderá ser fundamental para a definição da política externa da União Europeia para o Atlântico. Analisaremos o Conceito Estratégico de Defesa Nacional e relacionaremos o mesmo com a política externa, e de segurança, da União Europeia, com o intuito de compreendermos como se desenvolve, e perceber que papel desempenham os Açores, e Portugal, nesta política. Este trabalho pretende responder à pergunta de partida, “que papel pode desempenhar os Açores no futuro da geopolítica portuguesa e da União Europeia do ponto de vista da sua política externa?”, sob a perspectiva realista das Relações Internacionais. Utilizaremos como metodologia a pesquisa documental baseada em documentos escritos que nos permitirá ter acesso a um vasto leque de informação e assim fazer uma análise dedutiva e indutiva do tema, assim como recorreremos a entrevistas de algumas pessoas relevantes para este trabalho. Pretendemos concluir que os Açores foram, são e serão um dos territórios importantes da Europa devendo ser reconhecidos como tal. Esperamos ainda que este trabalho possa contribuir para o ressurgir do papel geoestratégico e geopolítico dos Açores, como ativo de Portugal na União Europeia. O território açoriano é acima de tudo europeu e a fronteira ocidental com a América do Norte e do Sul, e é neste contexto que o pretendemos analisar. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: This work aims to demonstrate that the Azores, an outermost region of the European Union, are more than just a bargaining chip in the Atlantic relationship. A historical perspective will demonstrate how the Azores were once important to the Euro-Atlantic relationship and to Portugal's assertion. We will analyze the current status of this territory and highlight the points that currently make it important from a security, scientific, and spatial perspective. Through interviews with individuals who, in the past and/or currently, are and/or have been involved in this topic, we aim to analyze how the Azores can be important to Portugal and the European Union from a geopolitical perspective, an importance that could be fundamental to defining the European Union's foreign policy for the Atlantic. We will analyze the Strategic Concept of National Defense and relate it to the European Union's foreign and security policy, aiming to understand its development and the role the Azores, and Portugal, play in this policy. This work aims to answer the initial question, "What role can the Azores play in the future of Portuguese geopolitics and the European Union from the perspective of its foreign policy?" from the perspective of realist International Relations. Our methodology will be documentary research based on written documents, which will allow us to access a wide range of information and thus conduct a deductive and inductive analysis of the topic. We will also draw on interviews with several individuals relevant to this work. We intend to conclude that the Azores were, are, and will be one of Europe's important territories and should be recognized as such. We also hope that this work will contribute to the reemergence of the Azores' geostrategic and geopolitical role as an asset for Portugal within the European Union. The Azorean territory is, above all, European and has a western border with North and South America, and it is in this context that we intend to analyze it. | eng |
