Neste artigo, falaremos sobre a conjuntura política e religiosa vivida em Marrocos e que levou à assinatura do Tratado de Paz, em 8 de Maio de 1538, entre Portugal e o Reino de Fez. Na província do Suz, os Xarifes organizaram-se como grupo político e religioso, e iniciaram a luta pela unificação do território marroquino. Para concentrar os esforços militares contra os Xarifes, o Sultão de Fez foi obrigado a assinar um tratado de paz com os portugueses. Todavia, a dinâmica dos Xarifes ganhou tal dimensão que, em 1541, começou a recuperar as praças que estavam sob o domínio dos portugueses, e em 1549 conquistaram Fez, capital do reino Uatácida, e unificaram todo o território marroquino sob a direcção de uma nova dinastia - Sádida.
ABSTRACT: This article is aimed to discuss Morocco’s religious and political conjuncture which led to the signature of Treat of Peace between Portugal and the kingdom of Fez, in the 8th of May of 1538. In the province of Suz, the Xarifes organize themselves as a political and religious group and started fighting for the unification of Morocco’s territory. The Sultan of Fez was obliged to sign the Treat of Peace with Portuguese, in order to concentrate the military efforts against the Xarifes. However, the Xarifes’s dynamic gained such a dimension, so in 1541 they started to recovery the places that were dominated by Portugal and in 1549 they conquered Fez, the capital of the Uatácida Kingdom, and unified whole Morocco’s territory on the behalf of a new dynasty - Sádida.
