The objective of this study is to characterize the conditions that preceded the foundation of the Theatre-Hall which point to the need of revitalizing the infrastructure of the area where it will be built – the new neighborhood of Santa Catarina –, as well as the socio-professional characterization of its founders and the analysis of its reports until its conversion to a casino, in 1895, moment when gambling becomes the "great fever of the bathing season".
