Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The Organizational Culture of an organisation is one of the factors to consider when analysing the reasons for a low turnover of its members. In this study, an Organic Unit of the public education network in the Azores was analysed, and the objective was to identify the type of Organisational Culture dominant in the Organic Unit, know the perceptions of the organisation’s teachers about its Organisational Culture, recognise the level of sharing and intensity with which Organisational Culture is experienced by teachers, and to relate the influence of the Organisational Culture on the stability of the teaching staff of the Organic Unit and possible relationship with the students’ Educational Success. The selected investigation typology was the Case Study, using a qualitative methodology with a predominantly inductive logic. The instruments for data collection were observation and consultation of the organisation’s internal documents, as well as interviews, which made it possible to triangulate the information collected. The results attained allowed identifying current and potential weaknesses in the Organizational Culture of the Organic Unit and propose strategies/actions to overcome them. At the end of the investigation, it may be concluded that the Case Study was applied in a school organisation whose current cultural typology seems to point toward a differentiating Culture, with a clear possibility of becoming a fragmented Culture. This conclusion has implications for the organisation, as a differentiating Culture is already indicative of a low level of sharing and intensity among its members, which could lead to changes in the levels of teacher turnover in the organisation and, therefore, have consequences on Educational Success. The possibility that this Culture, already presenting some weaknesses, could unravel and become a fragmented Culture should be the focus of attention on the part of the organisation and pave the way for the adoption of strategies that address this finding.
