Parentais e satélites : tácticas alternativas de acasalamento nos machos de Blennius sanguinolentus Pallas (Pisces: Blenniidae)

| dc.description.abstract | Observações animal-focal/grupo-focal, realizadas durante os meses de Junho, Julho e Agosto, sobre o comportamento de peixes marcados permitiram definir a existência e caracterizar a natureza de duas categorias de tácticas territoriais e reprodutoras em machos B. sanguinolentus dos Açores (Ilha do Faial). Os grandes machos reprodutores (CT: 13.72 f 1.62 cm; n = 32) estabelecem territórios parentais com base numa cavidade natural que serve de ninho e onde as fêmeas vêm desovar. Alguns dos machos de menores dimensões (CT: 9.64 f 0.87 cm; n = 35) vinculam-se a territórios parentais onde actuam como satélites permanentes. Estes machos que se dedicam de forma muito activa à defesa dos territórios parentais, quer em relação a machos das mesmas dimensões quer em relação a machos maiores nomeadamente parentais vizinhos, são incapazes de fundar territórios autónomos e de defender e manter um ninho no caso de este ser abandonado pelo macho parental. Participam na corte às fêmeas e procuram introduzir-se activamente no ninho nas fases de acasalamento dos machos parentais. Amostragens biológicas mostram que as gónadas dos machos satélites estão desenvolvidas e o esperma circula nos vas deferens. As unidades sociais compostas por um macho parental e um macho satélite são muito estáveis durante toda a época de reprodução. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: Animal-focal/group focal samplings of the behaviour of tagged fish during the months of June, July and August permitted a description of two types of territorial and reproductive behaviour of males of B. sanguinolentus in the Azores archipelago (Faial Island). The big reproductive males (TL:13.72 f 1.62 cm; n=32) establish parental territories with base in a natural cave which serves as nest where the females lay their eggs. Some small males (TL: 9.64 f 0.87 cm; n = 35) join the parental territory where they act as permanent satellites. These males defend their parental territory very actively both in relation to males of the same size and to larger males, which are mainly parental neighbours. They are incapable of founding their own territory and they are not able to defend or maintain the parental nest when this is abandoned by the male parent. They participate in the court ship of the females and try to enter the nest during the mating phase of the parental males. The gonads of the satellite males were mature and sperm was found in vas deferens. The social units composed of a parental and a satellite male are very stable during the whole period of reproduction. | en |
