Do estudo desenvolvido emergiram 5 dimensões: Educação pré-Natal; Autoeficácia materna; Apoio durante o parto e internamento na maternidade; Apoio pós-natal individualizado e Intervenções complementares e alternativas.
The purpose of this internship report, drawn up as part of the Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, is to carry out a critical-reflective analysis of the acquisition and development of competences for obtaining the Master's Degree and the title of Specialist Nurse in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing. This document is structured into two components: clinical and research. The clinical component describes the experiences and activities carried out, highlighting in a critical, objective and reflective way the journey of acquiring and consolidating specialised competences (common and specific to the Maternal and Obstetric Health Nurse Specialist) in different clinical contexts. In the research component, a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study was used to understand the influence and contribution of the Maternal and Obstetric Health Nurse Specialist in empowering women to breastfeed, by identifying and analysing the interventions carried out throughout the pregnancy-puerperium cycle, towards this empowerment. Five dimensions emerged from the study: prenatal education; maternal self-efficacy; support during childbirth and in the maternity ward; individualised postnatal support; and complementary and alternative interventions. The conclusion is that nurses specialising in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing play a fundamental role in empowering women to breastfeed, although some weaknesses have been identified in the care they provide. Their qualified and humanised work during the pregnancy-puerperal cycle seems to promote maternal empowerment, increase mothers' confidence and encourage continued breastfeeding. Common and specific competences inherent to the professional practice of the Nurse Specialising in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing were acquired, as well as the ability to produce essential knowledge to improve professional practice.
