Abstract(s)

The aim of this project is to promote conservation and sustainable use of coastal ecosystems in several MPAs located in different archipel agos of the Macaronesian Region: Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands (Central Atlantic Ocean) through a close transnational cooperation. The main benthic and fish communities are charact erized as well as the diverse economic activities performed inside the MPAs. The surveys are carried out both in the intertidal and in the subtidal areas of Santa Maria Isl and (Azores), the Eco-Parque Marinho do Funchal (Madeira) and in two coastal sectors in Gran Canaria and in Teneri fe Islands (Canary Islands). From the dat a obtained a zoning and management plan for each MPA will be done to support the sustainable use of their marine resources. PARQMAR is a project supported by the EU Initiative INTERREG III-B (Madei ra, Azores, Canari es), project PARQMAR (03/MAC/4.2/M9).
