Abstract(s)
A produção à escala industrial de Ephestia kuehniella ZELLER (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae), hospedeiro intermediário para a multiplicação dos Tricogramas (parasitóides oófagos), necessita de estudos dos factores bióticos e abióticos, quantitativos e qualitativos, condicionantes da cultura. Adoptou-se, por razões de baixo custo e disponibilidade no mercado local, como dieta alimentar para o estado larvar a farinha inteira de milho amarelo. As principais condições climatéricas do laboratório são mantidas constantes ao longo do ciclo do insecto. Realizámos vários ensaios variando a quantidade do alimento, analisando-se estatisticamente os seguintes parâmetros biológicos: duração do ciclo; heterogeneidade de emergência dos adultos; mortalidade e (ou) canibalismo; peso dos insectos; fecundidade e ritmo de postura. Noutro ensaio, incorporaram-se na farinha de milho, aditivos minerais habitualmente utilizados na produção animal. Os resultados obtidos são comparados estatisticamente com os obtidos com a dieta simples de farinha inteira de milho amarelo. Estes ensaios permitiram-nos, para os parâmetros biológicos estudados, avaliar a quantidade e qualidade da produção deste hospedeiro tendo em conta a sua maior rentabilidade.
ABSTRACT: Large scale industrial production of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae), intermediate host for multiplication of trichogramma (oophagous parasitoids), needs quantitative and qualitative studies of the biotic and abiotic factors conditioning their culture. For reasons of low cost and availability at the local market, integral yellow corn flour was chosen as diet for the larval stage. Main climatic conditions were kept constant in the lab through the life cycle of the insect. Several trials were conducted by varying the amount of food, statistically analyzing the following biological parameters: duration of the cycle; heterogeneity of adult emergence; mortality and (or) cannibalism; weight of the insects; fecundity and egg-laying rhythm. In another trial, mineral additives usually used in animal production were incorporated in the corn flour. The results were compared statistically with those obtained with the simple diet of integral flour of yellow corn. These trials allowed, for the studied biological parameters, to evaluate the quantity and the quality of the production of this host taking into account its highest profitability.
