| dc.description.abstract | L'archipel des Açores est un excellent site de travail pour des études biodémographiques; son isolation physique et sa structure socioculturelle favorisent encore l'endogamie et la consanguinité. Malgré ces conditions favorables très peu d'études sur la biodémographie lui ont été consacrées. L’objective de cette étude est d'explorer l’importance et l’interdisciplinarité des études biodémographiques pour les populations açoriennes; s’il est vrai qu'elles sont importantes pour toutes populations, nous croyons que le contexte insulaire, par ses conditions particulières, est unique, permettant à l’anthropologue de répondre à plusieurs questions sur les conséquences de l’isolation sur la structure des populations humaines. Afin de démontrer ceci, les résultats de la paroise la mieux étudiée de l’ile de São Miguel (Rabo de Peixe), sont également présentés. | fra |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: The Azores islands are excellent field of work on what biodemographic studies are concerned; their physical isolation and special socio-cultural structure still favours endogamy and consanguinity. Despite these special conditions, very few biodemographic studies were done in these islands. The purpose of this paper is to explore the importance and interdisciplinarity of biodemographic studies for Azorean populations; if it is true that they are important in any population, we believe that the insular context is unique in a way that it can provide special conditions, thus allowing the anthropologist to answer many questions about the consequences of isolation on the structure of human populations. In order to demonstrate this, results for the best-studied parish of St. Michael’s Island (Rabo de Peixe) also presented. | en |
