Resumo(s)
This study concerns the effects of a pirethroid insecticide permemethrin on growth kinetics of freshwater algae isolated from Furnas lake, Azores. Two species were studied, Scenedesmus protuberans and
Chlorococcum humicola, which have quite different morphological and ecological characters. Results show a remarkable difference of behaviour. Scenedesmus protuberans presents a fading of the growth curves, on the 1th day after pesticide
application. This tendency continues to increase till the 16th day. Chlorococcum humicola shows a sharp growth drop on 4th day of culture. Recover of growth starts
after the 4th day, but never reaches the levels of control cultures.
