Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho de investigação tem como propósito avaliar as perceções dos residentes da ilha de São Miguel face aos impactes causados pelo turismo na comunidade local e em relação à sua qualidade de vida, ao seu bem-estar e à sua felicidade.
Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre os principais conceitos e modelos de suporte ao estudo e como método de recolha de dados, para dar resposta às questões de investigação, foi realizado um inquérito por questionário aos residentes, aplicado durante o período de maio a julho de 2019. Através destes dados, pretende-se determinar se o contacto entre os residentes e os turistas influencia o modo como os residentes percebem os impactes do turismo na sua qualidade de vida, qual a sua opinião relativamente aos impactes económicos, sociais, culturais e ambientais causados pelo turismo e os sentimentos em relação ao local onde residem.
Verificou-se que o nível de contacto entre os residentes e os turistas ainda é relativamente baixo em todas as dimensões, o que vai ao encontro aos estudos realizados por vários autores. Concluiu-se também que os impactes causados pelo turismo afetam de modo positivo a satisfação dos residentes face ao desenvolvimento do setor turístico na atualidade e que esta satisfação por sua vez influencia de modo positivo a felicidade da comunidade residente.
Todos estes aspetos são de extrema importância para a gestão bem sucedia de um destino, pois para alcançar a sustentabilidade e a equidade é necessário que a qualidade de vida e o bem-estar da comunidade residente sejam tidos em conta.
ABSTRACT: This research has as its main purpose to assess the perceptions of the impacts of tourism on the quality of life, well-being and happiness of the residents of São Miguel Island. A bibliographic research about the main concepts and models of support to the study was conducted. The questionnaire, that was conducted from May to July 2019, was the method used to collect the necessary data, through this data we pretend to answer the main research questions and to ascertain if the contact between the residents and the tourists influences the way in which the community perceives the impacts of the sector on their quality of life, well-being and happiness, another purpose of this research is to know what’s the residents opinion about the economic, sociocultural and environmental impacts caused by tourism and their feelings about the place where they live. Upon the conclusion of this study it was possible to verify that the level of contact between residents and tourist is still very low in all of the domains studied, it was also possible to conclude that the impacts caused by tourism have a positive effect in the overall satisfaction of the residents about the development of the tourism industry, and that this satisfaction influences positively the overall happiness of the local community. All of these aspects are extremely important to the success of tourism on the destinations, the sustainability and the equity can only be achieved by understanding the way residents feel about the development of tourism, making sure, they are happy and that their needs are being met.
