Abstract(s)
São visíveis as mudanças que recentemente têm ocorrido no contexto social da viola da terra, com o aparecimento de novos construtores e novas abordagens organológicas, a utilização da viola como instrumento leader, um repertório variado e mais adaptado às salas de concerto e uma presença significativa na internet. É este o panorama atual em que vemos inserida a viola da terra. Talvez não menos viva do que antes, mantendo uma ponte sólida entre o passado e o presente. Sua presença em museus da região, em manifestações turísticas, em atividades lúdico-pedagógicas, na casa do homem simples e nas salas de concerto de elites, nos dá uma ideia de sua importância como símbolo identitário, forma visível da cultura açoriana.
ABSTRACT: The changes which have been occurring in recent times within the social context of the viola da terra are clearly visible, with the emergence of new luthiers and organological approaches, the use of the viola as a leading instrument, a more diverse repertoire and better adapted to the concert halls, as well as a significant presence in the online world. Perhaps as lively as before, it maintains a solid connection between past and present. This is the scenario in which we see the viola da terra. Its presence in regional museums, in touristic setups, in entertainment and pedagogical activities, both in regular people’s homes and in elite concert halls gives us an idea of its importance as an identity symbol, a visible manifestation of the Azorean culture.
